Enough.
“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”- Matthew 16:15
For those of you who have watched The Chosen, you may remember the profound scene from the Last Supper episode. As the disciples sat with Jesus, listening to His final message, they began to acknowledge who He was and the honor they had in being with Him and walking beside Him.
One by one, they went around the table sharing that what He had done for them was “enough.”
His mother, Mary, said, “If only I had held You in my arms and that was all… it would be enough.”
Mary Magdalene said, “If all You had done was call my name… it would have been enough.”
The scene looked as though they were thanking Him, but it was about so much more. It was about their recognition that He was who He said He was—and that none of what He had done for them was deserved. Therefore, it was enough.
Perhaps the most remarkable part is that they had not yet seen what was still to come—His death and resurrection. And yet they were already in awe, overwhelmed by what He had already done for each of them.
No matter what role He had played in their lives up to that point, it was enough.
We live in a world where nothing is ever really enough. Especially good things. We can never seem to get enough of those, can we?
Enough success.
Enough possessions.
Enough attention.
Enough compliments.
Their world, much like ours, was one in which nothing ever felt like enough. Yet in His presence, that was enough for them. It was possibly the only thing in their lives that truly felt like enough.
That says so much about who Jesus is. When you are with Him, whether through His Word, prayer, or one day in eternity, He is enough.
Sometimes I hear people ask, “Do you think pets are in heaven?” or “Do you think we will look beautiful in heaven?” And the truth is… I don’t know.
But I know this: In His presence, we will long for nothing.
Pets or no pets, beauty or no beauty, favorite foods or the same food for every meal—we will be content. It will be enough.
Because He is there.
As the psalmist wrote:
“Whom have I in heaven but You? And earth has nothing I desire besides You.” — Psalm 73:25
Today, I encourage you to find that same level of gratitude and contentment in your own life. If you could, what would you say to Jesus today?
Mine would go something like this: Even if You had just carried me safely through one drive, one flight, or one given moment… it would have been enough.
But He has done so much more—the greatest of all being my salvation.
Jesus, we deserved none of it. But You gave us all of it.
Thank You.
