His Grace is Sufficient

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” – 2 Corinthians 12:9

Mel Robbins has taken the country by storm with her most recent book, The Let Them Theory. I, too, have been captivated by the craze. The whole idea of giving up control is something I strive to do daily… yet repeatedly fall short.

Her theory is based on the idea that “no matter what’s going on outside of you, there is always power inside of you.” Okay, Mel. I hear you. And I concur.

But.

My issue with Mel’s constant stream of rational simplicity is that none of it ever includes… Jesus. Stay with me—don’t run away yet.

She’s right that other people are NOT in our circle of control. But friends, what is? Who is? The answer is overwhelmingly simple: a very real God—the God who adores you—is sovereign and driving the very car in which you’re seated. He is in control.

The power inside of us, to which Mel refers, does exist. But it’s not you. Let me ask you this: are you always feeling great? Always happy? Always a good judge of a situation? I’m sure as hell not. But God is.

Where I am weak, He is strong—and I am more weak than I’d ever like to admit. But weakness, my friend, is where opportunity knocks. Weakness is where we humble ourselves enough to say Let Him instead of Let Them.

Let Him is giving up control on a level that will set you free.

If someone hurts your feelings, let Him help you forgive and find the words to mend it.
If someone you love gets sick, let Him know how scared you are and ask for help.
If you feel unworthy and unloved, let Him fill you with the Spirit that is very much inside of you.

We will always fall short, my friend.
But when you Let Him, you’ll never have to worry about Letting Them ever again.

Let. Him.
