Can you fix the unfixable?
“I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well” (Pslam 139:14)
If you have talked with me for even five minutes in the last five years then I have probably shared (and then over-shared) all details of my menopause journey. Sorry, not sorry.
When Oprah does a prime-time special on the topic, you know it’s officially relevant and a “hot topic” to say the least. Even with an expert panel and hundreds of solutions to help alleviate the inevitable, it appears as though we may be trying to fix…the unfixable.
Do you have something like this in your life right now? As a result, is your Google search history filled with ways to make it right—a desperate attempt to control the uncontrollable? Menopause has become a powerful metaphor for life itself—our human attempt to fix what was never ours to solve.
Can you feel it, friend? Have you tried all the things? The protein, the magnesium, the weighted vest, etc., etc., etc.? Your list might look a little different-there are many journeys that don’t involve menopause, but the battle of aging is one we will all face. Regardless of your battle, how’s is the “fix-it” list going? No luck? Is it exhausting you? Of course it is. All of these tactics give us the illusion of control—the illusion of restoring what we have lost.
Friend, where can you close that proverbial tab on your computer’s search bar? Where can you surrender control to a problem that is not yours to fix? The aging process and hormonal decline (in both men and women) is unavoidable—like many other facets of life.
So here is where you rest in the promises of your Father, who reminds us that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.” Take your eyes off of yourself and put them back on your Savior, who looks at you and loves you. Not everything is meant to be fixed, my sweet friend. Stop searching and rest in the hands of the One who holds you.
Our Father, our greatest fault is trying to be in charge. We desire perfection in so many areas when, in fact, the only real thing we truly desire is You. Help us to fill those needs with You today. Where we try to “fix it,” help us to trust and know that we are made in Your image. The most perfect of all images. You are enough, Lord. Amen.
